Greenways of Zafan Valley, High Lands and Low Ebro
This route travels throught the provinces of Teruel and Tarragona. It covers three different Greenways that can be connected to each other to create a lineal route of almost 80 km. We make it two way in three days, but can be easilly done in two days (one to go and one to return).

The mountains of the Sierra de Gudar and El Maestrazgo lie due north of Valencia. Maestrazgo spans the boundary between Aragon and Valencia. It is one of the most sparsely populated areas of Spain, rich in historic detail and with a fine network of roads that link the ancient villages. Returning to Valencia from the west, via the Sierra de Javalambre, provides access to some quite different but equally impressive roads and scenery.
One of the nicest area is the Zafan Valley. The track is made of compacted soil, it is even and very nice to cycle. The route does not cross almost any town. You will ride in silence and solitude across very nice landscapes with the mountains in the background. We can also recomend you to take some detours to the nearby towns. This area was dominated in the middle ages by military orders as the Templar or Calatrabos that created fortified towns that were christian bases to fight againt the moors during the reconquer. These towns are now sparsely populated, but keep their monumental buildings and the scent of grandeur they had in the past. Our fauvorite town in the area is Valderrobres, but there are others worth visiting.
Path in the Zafan Valley
When you leave Aragon region to enter Catalonia, the Zafan Valley greenway end and begins the High Lands Greenway. This is a craggy area, but the many tunnels and viaducts will let you ride across without any effort on a flat track. Very important: Do not forget to bring a torch. Some of the tunnels are very long and the lights do not always work.
Finally, the greenway of Low Ebro river cross an area much more populated, and the route is not so nice anymore. Our advise, if you don't have any special interest in visiting Tortosa would be to finish in Xerta.
